How we build this site

testcentre.uk turns public DVSA statistics and Freedom of Information data into pages you can actually read. Here's exactly what goes into that, where it comes from, and where its edges are.

An independent, unofficial project

testcentre.uk is run independently and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the DVSA or any government body. We don't take bookings, we don't run accounts, and we've made no special arrangement for early or privileged access to data.

Everything you see is built from datasets anyone can download or request, using the same public releases described below. If the DVSA publishes it, or someone has successfully requested it under FOI, that's the only kind of data this site runs on.

Scope

Car (category B) practical tests only, covering Great Britain. Northern Ireland runs its own testing service and isn't included in any figure on this site.

How we handle the numbers

  1. We publish, we don't predict

    Every figure on this site is a count of tests that already happened. We don't model, forecast, or estimate a centre's future pass rate.

  2. The source is always one click away

    Every stat carries a source pill. Follow it and you land on the original DVSA release or FOI request, not a summary of a summary.

  3. Gaps get said out loud

    When a centre's data is thin, missing, or suppressed by DVSA, we say so on the page rather than quietly rounding a hole to zero.

  4. Small samples get flagged

    A centre with a handful of tests a year can swing wildly month to month. We surface the test count next to the rate so you can judge it yourself. Best/worst leaderboards only include centres with 100+ tests in the current financial year.

  5. One centre count, said clearly

    301 is the number of centres with a published current-year pass rate - the same set on the map and directory. Centres with only waiting-time or cancellation data still get a page, but they aren't in that count.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure traces back to one of the datasets below - either a published DVSA release, a Freedom of Information request we've filed and hosted openly, or community-mapped location data. Each source pill links through to the full citation, licence and original document.

Pins and addresses are sharpened against community-mapped OpenStreetMap data (via Nominatim), with attribution. The interactive map tiles are served by OpenFreeMap.
